Description: This Independent Study Project involves my skills and creative talents
as a web developer. I will create and maintain six (6) websites, including my own, for a total of
at least 40 hours of work. The websites are:
Requirements: Submit a "learning contract" (in the back of the handbook)
or a basic proposal like the senior thesis but shorter (1-3 pages).
Each unit is equal to 40 hours, so divide the number of unit hours by the
number of weeks left in the semester (5 weeks)= 8 hours per week per unit. You are
taking one units so you will be working on your independent study projects
for approximately 8 hours per week- this is because the work is starting
more than half way through the semester.

Intention:
To utilize and enhance my skills and creative abilities as a Web Developer / Videographer / Photographer / Creative Consultant / Graphic Designer and Activist for
these political, social, and spritual individuals and organizations. I will be learning more about the process of web development, design, videography/photography
(and uploading these mediums online), and business/interpersonal communications skills while working with these people. I will also be learning all I can about
the various subjects and topics that are integral in each area. I intend to learn more about Barbara Lee and her political values, actions, and initiatives.
I plan on learning more about the history of the Hopland Women's Festival and keeping up to date on the upcoming 2003 festival. I will be learning about and participating
in some of the hikes that are taking place in the Bay Area; I will continue to work with Julia Butterfly Hill and the
Circle of Life Foundation on various projects of interest.
Resources:
I will mostly be using computer equipment at home and in the various offices of the people I am working with. I will also be using
a miniDV camcorder for digital video and still image recording and production. I will be visiting the offices of Barbara Lee and Jody Cole to
meet with, discuss, and decide on the tasks that I will undertake for these projects. I will also be attending
a monthly meeting of the Governing Committee for the GLSierrans (I am a committee/chapter member). I will be connecting with other members to maintain
the GLS site. I will be in contact with Nate Binzen and Julia Butterfly Hill to stay informed about web projects they need help with. I will go to the
COL office on occassion and email/phone when necessary.
In addition, I will be maintaining social contact and attending social gatherings with many of the people involved with all of these organizations.
Some of my work may involve research, lectures, events, workshops, and additional field work.
Documentation:
I will be recording all of the work on the various websites (URLs above) and on my homepage - kirstenmichel.com
Evaluation:
I will evaluate my work by writing a brief summary on my work and publishing it online. The address of this site will be
http://kirstenmichel.com/wweval.html and will be accessible, upon completion, through this site.
