When Diane Wilson told her story at the 2001 Bioneers Conference of environmental activists and scientists, she challenged listeners to become "unreasonable" in their defense of the Earth. A new group, Unreasonable Women for the Earth, immediately formed. "If the so called "reason" of humankind has gotten us this far, it's time for the Unreasonable Women, and all Unreasonable Peoples, to change things towards a more sustainable way of living in harmony with Nature.
In 2002 Nina Simons, Co-Founder of Bioneers, produced a retreat for diverse women called UnReasonable Women for the Earth, to brainstorm about envisioning a broad progressive women's movement with environment at its heart.
The gathering served as an incubator, resulting in the formation of CodePink: Women for Peace. Code Pink is a response to the "Homeland Security" coding system
